About this ingredient
Ingredients
ProHydrolase® is a branded proteolytic enzyme blend designed primarily to support the digestion of dietary protein. Documented ProHydrolase® formulations include protease enzymes and bromelain, with specific enzyme sources, amounts, and activity units depending on the formulation. Some documented products identify proteases from Bacillus subtilis and bromelain from Ananas comosus (pineapple).
ProHydrolase® is a proprietary enzyme blend used in nutritional and sports-nutrition formulations to support the breakdown of dietary proteins. It is designed to provide proteolytic enzyme activity that helps hydrolyze proteins into smaller peptides and amino acids during digestion.
ProHydrolase® has been formulated for use with protein-containing products, including whey, casein, egg, soy, pea, and hemp proteins. It may therefore be incorporated into protein powders, meal-replacement products, capsules, and digestive enzyme supplements.
A clinical study examined ProHydrolase® added to whey protein and found differences in post-exercise blood amino-acid responses compared with a non-nutritive control; however, the study was small and results should not be generalized to every ProHydrolase® product or protein formulation.
Because ProHydrolase® is a branded enzyme blend, consumers should check the individual product label for the exact protease sources, enzyme activity, amount per serving, additional enzymes, and recommended use.
